metta /ˈmet.tə/ · Pali
The practice of extending genuine goodwill and warmth toward others.
Why we built this
Nonprofit advancement teams have an enormous amount of untapped goodwill. Their volunteers and donors genuinely want to help by making introductions, opening doors, connecting people they know to causes they care about. The problem was never a lack of willingness.
The problem was the process. Spreadsheets forwarded by email. Long lists sent to busy people who meant to reply but never did. Follow-ups that felt awkward. Introductions that never happened. Not because anyone said no, but because the friction was just high enough to stop them.We built Metta to remove that friction. A simple link. One prospect at a time. Two minutes on a phone. No account needed. That’s it.
Why the name
In Buddhist philosophy, metta is often translated as loving-kindness: the unconditional wish for others to be well and happy.
We chose the name because the best introductions work the same way. A volunteer who introduces a friend to a cause they believe in isn’t making a transaction; they’re sharing something they genuinely care about. That’s the spirit this product is built around.
Metta is just a tool but the more people who use it, the more that spirit of generosity can spread.
How we work
⏱
Every minute a volunteer spends navigating a clunky process is a minute they don't spend making the introduction. We obsess over removing friction.
🤝
The signal we care about is human: does this person know them, do they trust each other, would they feel comfortable making an introduction? That can't be scraped from a database.
🎯
We will always choose a simpler tool over a more powerful one if it means volunteers and gift officers can actually use it without training.
Upload a list, send a link, and let your volunteers do what they've always wanted to do.
